Week 2

Week 2

Jeesh, this semester is going so much more slowly than the last one.  I cannot believe that this is just the second week down.  Wow.  All my classes still seem fine, though!  I had CSC lab for the first time last Tuesday, which turns out to be my first class taught by a TA.  I actually already knew him from orchestra (he is a violinist) and the class itself doesn’t seem to be very difficult as of yet, so I think it will alright.  The rest of my classes are also going fairly well.  I am feeling a bit more stress from homework now than I was at the end of last semester, but I think that is just because by the end of the semester I was way, way ahead on homework (for the classes I could) while now I have not had enough time to get very far ahead in anything, as of yet.  Also my math homework takes me a long time because the teacher requests that we complete and submit it on our computers through Windows Journal, using our stylus and touchscreen.  Blech.  I am fine typing, and I am fine using an online program to type out my math equations, but writing on the screen with the little stylus is just terrible.  I submitted my application to be a RA this week, and I should hear back about that around the end of February, after interviews and such.

I have done a ton of work on Mines Advantage this week!  For those that don’t know, it is a program that allows students to record certain activities relating to Leadership, Career Prep, Service, Diversity, etc, and students can get various rewards throughout the process depending on how much of the program they have completed.  With a final leadership conference yesterday, I managed to complete that section, and I am getting fairly close in the others.  My cumulative completion so far is 63%, and it will continue through to the following semesters.  I believe the 50% mark is where I can go get a name badge from Mines Advantage to have at the Career fair coming up next month.  I am working on completing my Resume as well.

Other things going on- I had my first little meeting about The Idiot on Thursday, and it ended up being just me and Seth.  Still very interesting conversation, and I look forward to the next one!  We used the book more as a springboard for other conversation than talking about what actually happened in the book itself, but it was definitely fun, and I am very happy to be getting back in to Dostoevsky.

I also checked out the bouldering wall last week, and it seems pretty nice!  Bouldering has never been my strong suit, and I had to limit myself mostly to the “beginner” routes, but I was very impressed overall.

Beginning to get back into a general routine, and I hope that will help everything go more smoothly in the weeks to come.

Talk to you soon! -Christopher
